The first of six planned new electricity feeder stations for the Scottish network has been put in place at Ferguslie, Paisley. This will connect to the adjacent 132kV substation and is due to go live in September this year. The 6 new feeder stations will both contribute to expanded OHLE coverage and increased capacity / redundancy on already electrified lines.

Believe that two of the new feeder stations will be at Thornton in Fife, from which sections of electrified line will radiate out and a feeder station near Tweedbank on the Boarders Railway. These two stations and initial phases of OHLE, including the Haymarket and Dalmeny electrification for which piling is now underway, will allow the introduction of battery electric multiple units (BEMUs) on the Borders Railway and Fife area, including the under construction Levenmouth branch which is scheduled to open in spring 2024.
